A shared goal between ECOnGOOD and Doughnut Economics
The shared goal of transforming businesses motivated the combination of two powerful tools: the Doughnut Design for Business (DDfB) and the Common Good Balance Sheet (CGBS). The result is an article that guides the work of consultants and facilitators to reimagine the impact that for-profit organizations have on the planet and its people. Not only the tools complement and reinforce each other, but they also can be used at different stages of a company’s journey.
The CGBS and the DDfB share the same objective of supporting organizations and their teams to understand and transform their impacts, operations, business model and deep design in order to generate benefits to both people and planet. Although CGBS applies to not-for-profit and for-profit organisations, while DDfB solely focuses on businesses, there is a clear alignment in pursuing a transformational agenda that drives deep changes in all kinds of institutions.
Carlota Sanz Ruiz, part of DEAL’s team, sees that both Doughnut Economics and the Economy for the Common Good share a bold vision for a new system where people and the planet thrive in balance. “They call for a transforming businesses holistically – from their impacts and operations to their business models and deep design. Such a big change requires teamwork, and so we are thrilled to bring these two approaches together”, shares Ruiz.
The complementary tools help those that seek to reimagine businesses at their core. Andrea Prehn, project lead, believes this combination inspired the entire team that was involved in developing this article. “Working together to achieve this shared goal was a source of great motivation, wisdom and delight. Thanks so much to the whole project team”, says Prehn.
Putting people and the planet at the center of the economy is an important path to meet the needs of all within the means of a living planet.
